Wataru Hamasaka's The Sound of Earth: Physical Seat IX was an exhibit in the renowned Sculpture by the Sea exhibition at Cottesloe Beach in 2014 - and at Bondi Beach in 2007 and 2011.
Made from granite, the hollowed-out areas are used to create sound - so visitors can feel the tonal reverberations on the inner walls of the seat.
A multi-award winner, the work was the grand prize winner at the Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition in Hyuga Miyazaki Green Park in Japan in 2004, and received a Special Selection Award at the Busan Biennale Sea Art Festival in South Korea in 2011.
