Swan Fountain

Rising above Citizen of the Year Lake, the stunning sculpture of Western Australian black swans captures the spirit and life of the State's treasured Swan River.

Commissioned in September 1988, the Swan Fountain depicts five bronze swans majestically ascending from their nest in the centre of the lake.  Cast in bronze and emerging nine metres from the water, Swan Fountain was designed as a major landmark for Perth in recognition of the Citizen of the Year Award.

Designed by artists Charlie and Joan Smith, the sculpture seeks to express the 'spirit of place' and a certain universal quality which encompasses the entire concept of place, time and art.
